A pinch of salt for a pretty watercolor background

I saw this idea for a watercolor background in the spring 2014 CardMaker magazine

I am calling it - A pinch of salt for a watercolor background

Stamp set: Lovely as a tree, simply sketched, blooming with kindness (used on inside)

Paper: Water color paper, midnight muse, notecards & envelopes

Ink: Marina mist ink refill, pear pizzazz refill, midnight muse inkpad, black stazon

Other: Big shot, banner framelits, silver bakers twine

Notes: Use an aqua painter to wet the piece of watercolor paper, add drops of ink refill onto the wet watercolor paper, use the aqua painter to spread out the color across the watercolor paper, add a dash of salt, let dry and brush off the salt, then stamp the trees in black stazon and finish the card. What a fun background!

Surprise in a box

I enjoyed creating the surprise in a box card. Such a fun project and there are so many fun things you could put in it. I like that it folds flat and fits in a regular envelope too.

For the box start with a 9 x 5 ½ base, score at 2 1/8, 4 ¼, 6 3/8, 8 ½, turn and score at 2 ¾, cut the 4 score lines up to the 2 ¾ score line on one side, add sticky strip to the narrow ½ area to form your box. I stamped the outside of the box, add dsp (1 7/8 x 2 1/2 ) to three of the flaps, add a 5 ¼ x 1 7/8 to the back of the last flap (you can sign your card here and add greetings. Take a 3 1/8 square and score at 1/2, and 2 5/8, cut in half, fold in a “z”, add sticky strip and place on the inside of the box, this is where you will add the flowers for your bouquet, mount the stamped/punched flowers on ½ x 3 ½ strips of window sheet. Make your card in a box anything (flowers, hearts, balloons, Easter eggs, so many fun things to add to the box). It fits in a regular envelope!

Happy Day Starburst

Use the pretty watercolor wonder dsp to make a star burst, cut the 12 x 12 paper into 4 x 2 pieces and trim into a triangle, add the triangles to a 3 ¾ x 3 ½ piece of white paper, the dsp will hang over the edge, just trim off the excess. It’s fun to play around with different sizes of triangles.

Here is what I used to make my card:

Stamp set: Happy day, petite petals, petite pairs
Paper: Crisp cantaloupe, whisper white, watercolor wonder dsp
Ink: Crisp cantaloupe, island indigo, daffodil delight
Other: Gold sequin trim, petite petal punch

Fun with new Occasions catty items!

I had some fun using new items from the SU Occasions catty!

I layered 2 rows of the Retro Fresh washi tape on a 3 x 3 1/3 piece of very vanilla and used the heart collection framelits to cut out a heart. I added a little coastal cabana accent to the left side and I stamped the pssst... in versamark and added early espresso embossing powder. With the Hardwood stamped background it reminds me of initials carved in a tree. I used the heart punch to mat the heart that was cut out and popped it up with a dimensional, its not easy to see, but I added a smaller tangerine tango heart on top.

Here are the supplies I used:

Stamp set: Hardwood, happy watercolor

Paper: Natural ivory, baked brown sugar, retro fresh washi tape or retro fresh dsp, costal cabana, tangerine tango, early espresso, very vanilla

Ink: Baked brown sugar, tangerine tango, versamark

Other: Big shot, heart collection framelits, adorning accents edgelits, full heart punch, early espresso embossing powder

My version of Northern Lights technique

I saw the Northern Lights technique on splitcoaststamper and immediately knew that I had to try it and that I wanted to use the deer from Remembering Christmas.  The technique is really not difficult and I was happy with the way it turned out.  I added the pine tree from Lovely as a Tree.
Enjoy!
Missy

Stamp set: Remembering Christmas, Lovely as a tree

Paper: Smokey slate, basic grey, basic black, whisper white

Ink: Daffodil delight, old olive, tempting turquoise, rich razzleberry, night of navy, basic black, smokey slate

Other: Big shot, deco labels frame lits, bitty banners, 1/8 taffeta ribbon in basic black, white chalk marker

Notes: Using a rubbing motion, randomly apply daffodil ink onto the whisper white card stock (largest deco label), apply olive ink just below the daffodil ink, next fill in some of the white space with turquoises ink, fill in more of the white space with razzleberry ink, blend the colors as you add each one, next sponge navy ink over the top of the previous colors (this defines the shape the northern lights will take), sponge black along the bottom of the navy ink, stamp a solid image in black ink over the northern lights, add white dots with the chalk marker or white gel pen, finish the card
